It’s been a while since the Philippine Basketball Association’s Rain or Shine deep play-off race.

A hardworking blue-collar squad, the Elasto Painters last appeared in the semifinals during the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup — and it’s too long for a club to win two titles and make six trips to the final.

And coach Chris Gavina hopes that after the recent draft tops off the possibility of top-flight, good times are coming again.

“You can’t be more excited when you get this high-level, championship-type player to add to what Mike Nieto, Andrei Caracat and Santia Santilan are all about,” he said.

Painters Clarito and RJ Ramirez, along with two other Maharlika Pilipinas basketball league-hardcore players, have been tabbed overall by former fifth Ateneo captain Gian Mamuak, second-generation forward Shaun Ildefenso (10th overall).

The 47th season will begin with the Philippine Cup on June 5 where TNT is the defending champions.

“I look forward to seeing our practice become more competitive than usual. All these guys will try to prove themselves, ”he added.

Gavina said Rain or Shine actually saw Geo Ambot, who was picked by league newcomer Converse No. 3. He was ready to take Mamuak to No. 5, but was also surprised when the Painters saw Ildefenso free. The clock.
