MANILA, Philippines – In an exciting note at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, China beat Belgium 25-19, 25-22, 25-14 to start the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Week 2 campaign, beating Gang Jiangyu by 19 points.

Gong unloaded 10 of his 19 points in the second set, where they denied Belgium a brave fight on the way to a quick victory in one hour and 15 minutes.

When Belgium tied the second set 22-all, Gong drilled a back-to-back hit to take advantage of two sets before Jin Ye returned the Chinese lead.

The 25-year-old reverse spiker, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic gold medalist, nailed 16 of 23 in Spiking and had three blocks from China in a 1-week loss to Thailand in Ankara, Turkey.

Li Ying gave nine points, while Jin and Wang Yuanyuan added eight points.

Belgium captains Celine Van Gastel and Pauline Martin led their team to 11 points to absorb their fourth loss in just five matches.

Belgium dropped 18 errors and had no blocks as China got 10 kill blocks and only nine errors.
