UAAP Volleyball: Vanni Gandler Wants Atenio to Lead in Final Four

MANILA, Philippines – Vanny Gandler and Atenio Blue Eagles are determined to finish strong eliminations to reach the final four rounds of the UAAP Season 82 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

After a lazy first round where it started 0-3, Atenio continued to roll to stay in the Final Four Hunt, winning three of his last four games, tying Adamson at No. 4 with the same 6-5 record.

Gandler advanced a big time in the second round, averaging 13.25 points in the last four games which helped the defending champions increase their chances after the season.

“I think now is our drive to get to the final four. Our goal is to reach the final four and we know that every game is important, “said Gandler, who has 15 points on top of nine great receptions and six digs in Atenio’s 25-16, 25-22, 25-11 routes. Oriental University on Thursday.

For the 22-year-old Spyker, all he wanted to do was lead his team to one of the few holdovers remaining in the team’s season 81 championship in 2019z.

“As the coach always said, we just have to do our job, and at the moment, my focus is not on doing my job, and doing something really spectacular, but just finding ways to help my team and my teammates.” He said.

Atenio praised coach Oliver Almadro Gandler for being a selfless leader to his young teammates, led by Faith Nisperos.

The Blue Eagles will face the Lady Falcons in a crucial match on Saturday and a challenging final of the Elimination Round against La Salle and the University of the Philippines next week.

Gandler promises to “stay in the moment” when they try to reach the final four of their remaining games.

“It simply came to our notice then. We have to control what we can do now … we have to take it one step at a time because we don’t know what the future holds. But now we have control, “he said.
