Following his tried and tested system in Manila, Philippines-La Salle relied on breaks to beat a team from the University of Santo Thomas that did not come, 25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 25-8, on Thursday and in the singles game. Second place in UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball at the Off Asia Arena.

For a team where no player has any championship experience, the Lady Spykers have played like a well-oiled machine to score their third consecutive win for an 8-3 record.

They focused their defense on the UST’s top gunman and the league’s top scorer, Aya Lore. And that proved to be enough for UST’s second consecutive defeat at La Salle, dropping to third place at 7-4.

The Tigers attempted a reversal as they took the third set through a searing rally with a 12-15 to 23-22 lead.

But what worked for UST in the previous match did not fly this time because it got into trouble due to unnecessary error. In the first frame alone, the Tigers made 12 unforced errors.

Leila Cruz led La Salle with 15 points and four other Lady Spykers finished in double digits.
