MANILA, Philippines – National University coach Carl Dimaculangan says Ramil de Jesus, who has reached the final 11 times in 12 seasons, was inspired by his wards as they fought in La Salle after winning their third straight set in a successful program.

Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated and irresistible, leading the Lady Spykers to a 25-20, 25-12, 25-21 game, one of the biggest stage games of UAAP season 84 Volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.

“Nothing extra. I think my players are inspired every time we play them and when it comes to such a big game, ”Dimakulangan said after their 15th consecutive win, a win away from a perfect season.

Belen, who scored 15 points to lead their game to a win, admits that they are more determined to play better when they face La Salle because of the successful program that has won 11 UAAP Championships.

“For me, I don’t know why we play differently against La Salle. But I think we are extra motivated because of their successful history under coach Ramil and they have won many championship crowns, “said Belen in Filipino. “I hope we keep this interest.”

NU had 11 blocks against La Salle, which was the best blocking team in the elimination round. The Lady Bulldogs also outscored the Lady Spykers in a 43-23 edge attack and gave the Aces an 8-2 lead in the service.

“We’ve prepared, watched and reviewed La Salle games. We studied their trends and estimated their movements. Good thing, we performed well, “said Dimakulangan.

Despite their impressive win, Dimakulangan insisted that La Salle must resolve their errors after giving them 25 free points.

“We cannot give up free points. We can’t give up on this final, “said the NU coach. “We just have to keep our strengths and focus on the next match. But the mentality of my players, they are always ready.

NU had a perfect season and the first women’s volleyball crown since 1957 in Game Two on Tuesday.
