MANILA, Philippines – Bella Belen fired eight service aces as Mall of Asia Arena won the No. 1 seed in Saturday’s UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, dominating National University 25-15, 25-10, 25-15 against the University of the Philippines.

The Nazareth School push-up is the UAAP record set by former Atenio star DG Garvasio, who gave the league’s top eight aces in their 25-14, 25-8, 25-16 win over UP in Season 75 on February 2, 2013.

Belen has already set the record early in the second set by nailing back-to-back aces for a 9-2 spread as NU finished with a total of 13 tails on the way to a one-sided victory after one hour and 26 minutes.

“I am just happy to be able to make amends in my last match. In our training (before this game), we focused on getting the service, which was our last game lack. We’re happy to implement it and reduce our flaws in the service, “said Belen, referring to their four-set win over Adamson last Thursday.

The former UAAP girl’s MVP led the way with 16 points, including eight attacks, helping NU finish its No. 1 seed with its 12th win in the Final Four era – two wins away from a full final.

Shina Toring chipped in 11 points on eight strikes, two aces and one block. Ivy Lacsina and Alyssa Solomon added eight points, while captain Cesc Rebels added seven markers.

The setter Lams Lamina pulled out 17 excellent sets, as Libero Jennifer Nierova defended the floor with 18 digs and nine receptions.

No one from UP could score a double figure where Steve Bustrillo was leading with nine as the Fighting Maroons also dropped 24 errors, falling to the brink of extinction with a 5-7 record in 6th place.
