MANILA, Philippines – The Lamus Lamina UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament is a key part of National University’s initial success, remaining unbeaten in nine games for the best start in the Final Four.
“All my teammates feel like I’m defeated once I give up,” Lamina said after NU’s 18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 win over Atenio at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
(Once I set the ball all my teammates are hitting their spikers.
Lamina, who has 22 great sets at the top of four points, said the attack of his teammates gave him confidence in taking his responsibility as a setter.
“Maybe it gives me the courage to hit every stone right away, it seems like,” he said.
(They gave me confidence because whenever I set the ball, they always nailed it.)
Lamina emerged as the league’s top setter at the end of the first round, averaging 5.09 excellent sets per frame.
NU head coach Carl Dimakulangan, who was also a setter during his years playing with the University of Santo Thomas and the Commercial Volleyball League, said Lamina was a coaching playmaker who always provided his drawings.
“He is always listening to my instructions and applying them to the game. Because I always guide him, “said Dimakulangan in the Filipino.
With NU winning nine games in a row and performing well in the lamina dramas, Dimakulangan wants his youngsters to keep learning, which he has been emphasizing to the team in every game.
“It simply came to our notice then. Because learning every game is very important for our team. It’s not just about setting the ball for his teammates but also creating dramas that will give us points, “said Rita Dimakulangan’s brother.
NU tried to secure a final four berth against Hapless University in the East on Tuesday.
