MANILA, Philippines – Rarely used speaker Erica Santos unveiled a one-sided victory over Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday.
When La Salle trailed FEU 13-20 in the first set, Santos provided the spark for the Lady Spykers off the bench, nailing timely hits as they completed a return to the opening frame of the path at 25-23, 25-13, 25 Route-14 in third place for a 6-3 record.
“I am ready as soon as they call (my number). I wanted to meet what the team needed, “said Santos, who extended his extended playing time to nine points.
La Salle assistant coach Benson Buckbok, speaking on behalf of Ramil de Jesus, was hardly surprised by the contribution of their alternate wing spokesman, who checked in for starter Leila Cruz.
“Erica has a lot of positive energy when she’s in court. We really depend on his attack, which he really showed (in today’s game), “said Bokbok in Filipino. “Erica delivered as expected.”
Although he has spent most of his time on the bench in their previous games, Santos has confirmed what the team needs and what he can contribute from his point of view.
“Maybe it’s tight, because coming from the bench we saw the movement of the team and observed what we were missing,” he said. (Coming off the bench, we see the movement of our teammates and notice what our team lacks.)
After Santos proved his worth, La Salle showed that it had a lot of weapons in stock. The No. 3 team wants to maintain its momentum against Skidding University (4-5) in the Philippines on Tuesday.
