MANILA, Philippines – The National University of the Philippines swept the first round of the UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena after dominating the University of the Philippines, 25-10, 25-20, 25-15.

The Lady Bulldogs improved their previous best start in the 76th and 80th seasons from 6-1 to 7-0.

NU head coach Carl Dimakulangan told Filipinos: “We needed this win to accelerate our progress to the second round and prepare for the difficult second round.”

Bella Belen led a balanced attack with 13 attacks for the Lady Bulldogs and Princess Robbells with 12 attacks.

“Our team is young but sweeping the first round inspires us even more as we prepare for the next round. Other teams will adjust so we have to be more prepared, “said Dimakulangan.

After three consecutive wins to start the tournament, the Fighting Maroons are now down from their last four.
