MANILA, Philippines – A 25-19, 25-21, 29-31, 33-31 win in the UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena on Thursday at the University of Santo Thomas ended Atenio’s three-game winning streak.

Eya Laure led the Golden Tigers with a career-high 31 points at the top of 14 excellent receptions to give her side a 5-2 lead after the singles second round.

UST Atenio, trailing 30-31 in the fourth set, handled three straight hits against a service error. Casey Galdons then followed it up with a kill block and ended things with a louder off-the-block hit to win the match.

After playing for two hours and 26 minutes, UST head coach Kung Fu Reyes said: “It looked like we played six sets. “Rolling ships sail to the harbor port. The best thing about it is the experience where your fighting spirit shows.”

Emmy Hernandez fired half of his 14 points in the fourth set for UST, where the Galdons had 12 points, including three blocks. Tapia added 11 points in the win, including three in the clinching set.

Faith Nisperos trailed Atenio by 22 points and Gandler led by 18 points, all from Spike.
