MANILA, Philippines – Faith Nisperos burst into tears after defeating a hard-fought Adamson team in a tough five-setter to bolster the Blue Eagles’ final four chances in the UAAP Season 84 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.
After dropping three points in the thrilling fifth set to give Adamson a 31-point lead and escape, Atenio’s top scorer got emotional after singing their alma mater, biting his nails at 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 23 on Saturday. Mall of Asia Arena wins 25, 19-16.
“I was very emotional at the end of the game because we all, from our coaches to my teammates, worked really hard for it and we accepted all our efforts and sacrifices. And we did it despite the fatigue, “said Nisperos in the Filipino after the big win.
The Davaoeña Spyker dropped Atenio to singles No. 4 with a 7-5 record with 22 UAAP career-best, 26 assists, four aces and an impressive defensive effort with a block.
Despite delivering his best play and hitting on time when it was most important, Nisperos returned the credit to his teammates for stopping the proud Lady Falcon.
“I am very proud of my teammates, I am very proud of my team. We did not give up. We fought together. That’s why I was so proud at the end of the game and I cried, ”he said.
The 22-year-old Spyker believes the Blue Eagles have “slowly got there” by winning four of their five second-round matches.
But Nisperos insisted the work had not yet been done because Atenio was keen to spread his wings to reach the final four in his last two games against rivals La Salle on Tuesday and the University of the Philippines on Thursday.
“We have learned a lot from this game and our hard work has paid off. But there are some things that need to be done. Yes we are going there, but we will not stop, “said Nisperos.
