Son Hyung-min was awarded South Korea’s highest sporting honor on Thursday after Tottenham forward became the first Asian player to win the Golden Boot in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old was awarded the medal by President Eun Sook-eol Cheungnion before South Korea’s friendly against Brazil at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul.
The boy, dressed in a dark suit, walked into the crowded stadium as the crowd cheered, with a banner reading: “We are living in the age of world-class Son Hyung-min.”
The audience roared as the President clipped the medal on the son’s chest.
Previous recipients of the medal include two-time Olympic gold medalist figure skater Una Kim and golfer Pak Se-ri.
The boy shared the Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah last month when they both scored 23 goals in the Premier League in the just-concluded season.
Eun congratulated the son on his achievement on Facebook, calling it “a joyous occasion celebrated by all the Asian football community”.
