Local response

“Of course a hard push for Vanderbilt’s 2023 recruitment class when you think Mooney was committed to the Commodores for almost six months. With Mooney, Vanderbilt also wanted to add a second quarterback to this year’s class. Now, it’s not currently committed.

“Commodores will also enter the fall with five scholarship quarterbacks on their roster that will include two juniors and three newcomers, so there is already some trouble in the position.” Shawn Williams,

National response

‚ÄúVanderbilt was loaded quarterback in 2022 class and the idea is that four-star AJ Swan could be the future of crime there. Getting three quarterbacks in the last recruiting class certainly helped defeat Munir, who is a talented player but other players in that position should be interested in the possibility of playing in SEC and Vanderbilt’s academic prowess to rebuild a program.

“It was somewhat surprising that Mooney chose the Commodores in the first place so he’s back on the market. It’s not a complete shock. Vanderbilt would love to get him but QB room is stocked and another quarterback will probably happily take his place.” Adam Gorny, National Recruiting Director
