Lightweight boxer Simiso Buthelezi, 24, died of a brain haemorrhage after a fight over the weekend in Durban, Boxing South Africa (BSA) reported Wednesday.
The 10-round World Boxing Federation All-Africa Bout against fellow South African Cefesihle Montungwa on Sunday was stopped by the referee when Buthelezi started punching in the air during the final round.
Please for Simiso Buthelezi (4-1) খুব Very scary in South Africa. At 2:43 of the 10th and final round, Mantungwa (7-1-2) fell through the ropes at Cefesihale but then Buthelezi seems to have lost his sense of the current situation. He was rushed to a hospital and placed in a coma when it was discovered that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage, but died on Tuesday.
The BSA added that an independent medical review of the tragedy would be conducted when coach Veki Mongomezulu said Buthelezi was perfectly healthy at the time of Bout’s build-up.
