SEA Games: The Philippines lost to Indonesia for the first time on the women’s beach

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine women’s beach volleyball team suffered its first defeat to Indonesia as CC Rondina and Bernadette Ponce lost to Dhita Juliana and Putu Utami in a 15-21, 19-21, golden match on Tuesday 31st. Southeast Asian Games at Tuan Chou Beach, Vietnam.

Randina and Ponce failed to beat Juliana and Utami’s tandem in the decisive match as the ruling silver medalists tied the Philippine two-game winning streak with a 2-1 win-loss record.

Juliana and Utami defeated the pair, who won bronze at the 2019 SEA Games, 21-19, 21-17 in their first fight.

Jovlin Gonzaga and Diz Rodriguez came to the rescue for the national team as they forced a golden match with a 21-13, 21-19 win over Nur Atika Sari and Martha Rahavarin.

On the day, the Indonesians dominated the country’s volleyball teams as their indoor volleyball sections also brought down the national team led by Jaza Santiago in four set overs at the Kwang Nin Gymnasium.

At 9 a.m. Wednesday (Manila time) the Philippines battles host Vietnam.
