SEA Games: The Filipino pair secured PH’s first medal in table tennis

MANILA, Philippines – John Russell Misal and Richard Gonzalez are set to win silver in the men’s doubles table tennis at the 31st Southeast Asian Games at the Hai Dung Gymnasium on Wednesday.

Misel and Gonzalez failed to capitalize on their thrilling first-set win, losing 11-5, 8-11, 4-11, 10-12 to Singapore’s Clarence J. Chiu and Ethan Shao Feng Poh in the final.

The Filipino pair had earlier won the semifinals by five sets against Singapore’s Josh Shao Han Chua and Yue N Koen Pang.

Misal and Gonzalez also showed their perseverance in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, beating Thais Fakpum Sanguansin and Padasak Tanviriavechakul in five sets.

The pair of Misal and Gonzalez brought the Philippine team its first medal in table tennis.
