SEA Games: Shugen Nakano wins Philippine’s second judo gold

MANILA, Philippines – Shugen Nakano completed his gold medal in the men’s 66kg judo at the 31st Southeast Asian Games at the Hoai Duc Gymnasium in Vietnam on Friday.

Nakano, who won gold at the 2019 SEA Games, re-ruled his division by defeating host Vietnam’s Hwang Fuk Trung in the final.

Nakano defeated Cambodian Kimheng Verne in the semifinals to reach the gold medal match.

It was the country’s second gold in judo after Rena Furukawa reigned in the 57kg women’s division.

Krizia Pabulayan won a silver medal in the women’s 52kg judo, losing to Thi Than Thuye Nguyen of Vietnam in the final.

In the semifinals, Pabulion defeated Aaye Mar Lar of Myanmar. He defeated the Queen Mary March of Indonesia early.

He surpassed his previous bronze medal in the 2019 edition.

Judo in the Philippines has three silver and one bronze.
