HANOY – Rubelin Amit won a women’s 9-ball gold medal 7-2 at the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday, blocking a mini rally near Singapore’s Jessica Tan.
The former Filipino world champion quickly took a 3-0 lead in their final and asked Tan to finish the time.
When the game resumed, 40-year-old Amit faced a rough fourth rack where he scratched twice, allowing the Singaporean to take the next two racks.
But Amit is not going to be stopped because he has shown the morale to be an eight-time SEA Games champion.
He then pushed a missed corner off 1-ball and climbed that pace to claim his third 9-ball title at the biennial meeting.
It was the country’s first gold medal in billiards and snooker where a few more are expected, including Jeffrey Roda in the snooker singles final late Tuesday.
The men’s 9-ball Filipinos have also been confirmed gold after Carlo Biado and Johan Chua advanced to the final.
