MANILA, Philippines – Nesti Peticio suffered a crushing defeat to Vietnam’s Thi Lin Tran in the semifinals of the 57-60kg women’s boxing at the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Friday at the Back Nin Stadium.
Peticio, a silver medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, lost by three points to a hometown boxer.
The 30-year-old, who won gold at the 2019 SEA Games and won three silver medals from 2011 to 2015, committed suicide at his biennial finish at the biennial meeting, settling for a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Ian Clarke Bautista and Irish Magno reached their respective divisional finals, competing for three gold medals with compatriot Yumi Marcel.
In the men’s 52-57kg semifinals, Bautista defeated Cambodia’s Rangse Sao 5-0. He finished his bronze medal in 2019.
Magno defeated Indonesia’s Novita Sinadia 5-0 to secure at least one silver medal in the women’s 48-51kg.
However, previous 69 kg SEA Games boxing silver medalist Marjan Pianar also lost 1-4 to Indonesia’s Sarohatua Lumbantobing.
