Rough by early foes, the Philippines worked their way into the men’s basketball tournament at the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Thursday night, just in time for an 88-60 victory.

To push the hosts to the Thane Tri Gymnasium in Hanoi, the Gilas Philipinas once again leaned towards Constone Jun Mar Fazardo, and the Filipinos won for the fourth time in a row to become the reigning champions.

The PBA’s six-time most valuable player spread 25 points and 11 rebounds to grease the Nationals’ pull-away in the second half which eventually kept the campaign spotless through four matches.

Kifar Ravenna and Francis Lopez chipped 12 in the scoring effort as the Philippines targeted two more enemies: 1-2 Malaysia and passive and 3-0 Indonesia.

Giles took a break this Friday and will resume his title-holding bid on Saturday against struggling Percy.
