MANILA, Philippines: The Philippines closed its gates on Thursday night to perfect the 31st Southeast Asian Games women’s basketball tournament and lost 118-87 to host Vietnam.

Before the third consecutive victory at the Thanh Tri Gymnasium in Hanoi, the Gilas Philipinas women buried the hosts in a hole as deep as 26 points in the opening frame that the nationals were ahead in the race.

The Nationals remain the only undefeated squad in the showcase and they are now looking for more to repeat as gold medalists.

Castillo led the way for the Philippines with 24 points in the sector, building on 7 for 11 from three-point land. Afril Bernardino and Elisha Bade made 14 runs to highlight another joint scoring performance for the Philippines.

Vietnam pulled 18 in the third frame but Gilas ‘deadly shooting shattered any hopes of the hosts’ return, widening the gap to 37 points during the payoff frame.

The Philippines will take a break on Friday before shooting for another win against Singapore next Saturday at 10am. Gilas will wrap up the match against Malaysia on Sunday.
