The Philippines faced little resistance on its way to a third-consecutive victory in the men’s 5-on-5 basketball tournament at the Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday afternoon.

Gilas Pilipinas has beaten Singapore, 88-37, to perfect the showcase at the Than Tri Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Roger Pogba, playing for the Filipinos, became a team-high 19 points at the top of the underscore defense’s admirable effort with three steals.

Francis Lopez turned out to be another performance worthy of a highlight reel. The teenager finished with 18 points in 7 for 7.

The defending champions held the enemy to just 17 first-half points – just as they did against Cambodia on Tuesday – on the verge of a runaway victory that almost gave Giles a lead over the showdown against the hosts this Thursday.

Gilas will play Vietnam at 8pm and his female compatriots will play the host squad at 6pm.

The Philippines will sink to a break before caps with Malaysia and then Indonesia on Friday.
