BAC NINH, Vietnam এটি This is going to be another all-Filipino showdown for the men’s doubles gold medal in tennis at the 31st Southeast Asian Games at Hanaka Sports and Service Center.
Ruben Gonzalez and Trit Hue partnered with their 2019 tormentors Jason Patrombon and Francis Casey Alcantara to beat Vietnam’s Jiang Trin Lin and Mihan Tuan Pham 6-4, 6-2, 6-4. Goals scored -4 wins against another Vietnamese pair, Quoc Khan Le and Văn Phuong Nguyen.
The gold medal match is scheduled for Saturday.
Men’s tennis coach Chris Quarto said: “We have now secured another gold and one silver medal in the men’s doubles. “It’s really a relief for the team that we’ve had all the difficulties in Manila.”
Top seed Alex Ila, however, secured the bronze medal after losing 4-6, 1-6 to fourth seed Thai Luxika Kumkhum in the women’s singles semifinals.
“For Alex, there’s still a lot to learn and more to play in the SEA Games tournament,” Quarto said of the 16-year-old rising star. “It’s going to be his time soon,” he said.
Ella and Hui won bronze medals in the mixed doubles semifinals on Thursday night, beating Thailand’s Pruchya Isaro and Pacharin Chapchandez 6-3, 6-3, 10-4.
