MANILA, Philippines – San Juan Knights-Go for Gold assistant coach Young Garcia has been fired for a month without compensation.
In a statement released by the Knights on Tuesday, the team punished Garcia for his “immoral acts that tarnished our favorite city and our name in basketball.”
Garcিয়াa was caught spitting at Valencia player Lord Casazeros in the second quarter of their game at the Maharlika Pilipinus Basketball League in San Juan.
“Assistants are being suspended with the highest standard of professionalism in the sports industry. Coach Efren Garcia for one month without any allowances or incentives for the regular season 2022 of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, ”the statement said.
“Unfortunately for us, the suspension will take effect immediately.”

Garcia, who was fired at 1:06 a.m. second quarter for the incident, apologized for his “unacceptable and professional conduct.”
“I sincerely apologize to Lord Casageros, the Valencuela team manager, John Santos, the coaching staff, the players, the Valencia city and the MPBL management team,” Garcia said. “The incident was tragic and unforgivable. I take full responsibility for my actions. “
“My activities were unsolicited and I could have handled it better. There is no place for that behavior in sports. I’m really, really sorry. I am fully committed to straightening my path and regaining the trust of the community. I apologize to everyone and accept the full consequences of the incident. “
