MANILA, Philippines – Ginebra Blackwater started her PBA Philippine Cup campaign with a 85-82 victory at the Yanares Center in Antipolo on Sunday night.
It took Jean Kings big plays from now-fit Japeth Aguilar and new-minted Most Valuable Player Scotty Thompson to ignore the bosses, who caused an incredible disaster for defending champions TNT.
“We knew we had a fight in place, and it was tougher than we thought,” head coach Tim Cone told reporters after the game.
“It simply came to our notice then. That team of coach Vanguardia is playing really well. They are going to be difficult for anyone at this time, “he added.
Thompson was named the game’s best player with 14 points, 16 rebounds and nine assists.
Christian Standhardinger is ahead with 21 points. Aguilar, for its part, pumps 15 more.
Meanwhile, Blackwater drew 15 points from Ray Suarez. Joshua Toralba and Bus Mango chipped in at 14 and 11, respectively, as Bossing trailed 1-1.
Genebra immediately returned to action. Jean Kings will play Rain or Shine at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay this Wednesday
Blackwater will have a chance to get back on track on Saturday when it takes 1-0 at Northport.
