The Manila, Philippines-Meralco took a lead in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Thursday night after breaking the Converse, 90-74, at the Yanares Center in Antipolo City.
Aaron Black, Chris Newsom, and Allen Malksy started the fourth-quarter run that the Fiber Xers thought was not on the same floor with them, eventually hitting the young club first in the advancing Pro League.
“Our defense is Meralco bread and butter. We just play a good defense and let our offense follow, “said Blake, who was injured with 25 points and five assists.
Malikci tossed 22 when Newsom 19 joined the lazy San Miguel Bear stand as Meralco.
Converse received the products from Taylor Brown, a sophomore who spent his rookie season as a reserve for the now-defunct Alaska Aces. He finished with 14 points in 4-for-5 three-point shooting.
FiberXers, which went down 1-4, still looks promising as Geo Ambohot spikes 10 points and 11 rebounds with four blocks.
Meralco will play 2-2 TNT in the sister team fight this Sunday.
Converse, meanwhile, will be shooting for a crucial win against the undefeated Teraformer on Wednesday next week.
