MANILA, Philippines-Magnolia finally entered the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday, pulling the bandwagon from below 80-77 Northport on Wednesday afternoon at the Mall of Asia Arena in the nearby town.

Rome della Rosa hit a wide-open triple from the left wing with six ticks left – his first made after seven attempts – to help the Timplados win the first after losing their first two matches briefly in the centerpiece tournament.

The shot from the conference’s royal best player Calvin Abueva, who finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds, also saved a big outing.

Arvind Santos led the way for Northport with 18 points, but the underage senior failed to hit the most important one, as Missy destroyed Batang Peer for their first defeat.

The win will give Magnolia all the encouragement as the sister team and heavyweights San Miguel Beer and Barangay Genebra are next.

The 2-1 batting pier, meanwhile, will play the next dangerous Blackwater.
