MANILA, Philippines – Boyette Fernandez has been fired as head coach of the San Beda Red Lions.

Fernandez did a fruitful job with the Red Lions from 2013-2014 and 2017-2022, managing four of them at the NCAA Championships.

“I’ve coached for six NCAA seasons, [we had] Six final fours, five final appearances, four men’s basketball crowns, “Fernandez said in a statement to the San Beda community.

“Not bad, but I know I met all your expectations last season and I’ll take all the blame for that.”

According to a source, Fernandez’s entire coaching staff was also released, paving the way for a restructuring after a disappointing campaign in NCAA Season 97, with defending champions Latron winning earlier this month.

The new head coach is expected to be announced soon.

In Fernandez’s final season with San Beda, the Red Lions failed to advance to the championship round after being booted out by the Mapua Cardinals in the final four.
