MANILA, Philippines – Giles is expected to be out for the Philippines after suffering a meniscus sprain and partial ACL rupture in the Angie Kaum, the Philippine Basketball Association announced Wednesday.
The naturalized center will miss the glass exhibition games in South Korea and could also be the sideline for the third window of the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers and FIBA Asia Cup.
“Gilas Pilipinas Men starting center Ange Kouame’s meniscus sprain and partial ACL tear was caught,” the SBP said on its website.
“Due to this unfortunate development, the 6-foot-10 player will not be able to join the Giles in the friendly match against Korea, and the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 – the Asian qualifier and the third window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 are in doubt. “
The SBP is already trying to replace Kouame for the June 30 clash with New Zealand.
Guard Dave Ildefenso will not travel to South Korea with Gilas due to an ankle injury.
