PARIS: World number one Iga Svatek of Poland won the women’s singles title at the French Open on Saturday, beating American Coco Gaff 6-1, 6-3 in the final.

It was the second Grand Slam title for the 21-year-old Suatek, who also won the Roland Garros in 2020.

Court Philippe Chatterjee’s win over 18-year-old Goff, who was playing in his first Grand Slam final, extended Swatech’s winning streak to 35 games.

Sweitech, seen as an irresistible favorite to win before the start of the Claycourt Major, broke Goff’s serve five times in two sets and sealed the contest at his first matchpoint in one hour and eight minutes.
