MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines beat modern-day Mongolia 1-0 on Saturday with Gerrit Holtman scoring the winning goal of the game for their first win in Group B of the third round of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers at the MFF Stadium on Saturday. Ulanbatare.

The Philippine men’s soccer team was on the verge of another goalless draw when Bundesliga VFL Bochum winger came out of the box in the 93rd minute with a clutch goal that stunned the home team and its crowd.

The Filipino-Germans made their recent debut in dramatic fashion, pushing the country to the brink of another Asian Cup presence.

Holtman, who has not been able to draw a goalless draw against Yemen these days, led his team to a total of four markers in Group B, ahead of Palestine, who have three as posting time.

At 12:30 pm on Tuesday, the Philippines will try to secure a place against the top qualifiers of the Asian Cup and Group B against Palestine.

Patrick Reichelt scored the first goal for the national team in the 76th minute after receiving a penalty kick.

But Mongolian goalkeeper Munkh Erdene expected Enkhtaivan Reichelt’s effort and prevented him from scoring.

Thanks to Holtman’s heroism, Phil Younghasband’s game-winning goal in the 2-1 win over Tajikistan in the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers at the Rizal Memorial Stadium marked the first victory for the now-returning coach Thomas Dooley.

Mongolia bombed out of contention with its second defeat in the group.
