MANILA, Philippines: The Philippine women’s soccer team has drawn in Group A of the 2022 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship, which will be held in the country from 4 to 17 July.

During a draw at the Marco Polo Hotel on Saturday, the Filipinos slotted with three-time AFF women’s champions and runners-up in the Southeast Asian Games, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.

The matches will be played at the Binan Football Stadium in Binan City and at the Emus City Grandstand in Emus, Cavi.

Women’s national football team coach Allen Stagsick is excited to compete against the best teams in the region in front of a home crowd as he puts in no effort to prepare for their historic 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup debut.

“We look forward to playing in front of our home fans and against the best team in Southeast Asia,” Stajcic said. “Another great opportunity for this team to experiment so we can learn, grow and improve.”

Defending champions and SEA Games gold medalists Vietnam, who will make their World Cup debut next year, are in Group B with Myanmar, Timor-Leste, Cambodia and Laos.

The Filipinos, who recently won their first bronze medal since 1985 at the 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, are looking to make history by surpassing their best finish in the fourth-place tournament in 2019.
