US Open champion Emma Radukanu was knocked out of the French Open on Wednesday, losing 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to Belarus’ Aliakasandra Sasnovich in the second round.
The British 12th seed, making his professional debut at Roland Garros this year, lost his first match since winning his shock US Open in 2021 to 47th-ranked Sasnovich in Indian Wells.
“After the first set, I thought I would not win so I played point by point,” said Sasnovich, 26.
Radukanu made 33 unforced errors and paid the price for not converting five break points in the third game of the decider.
Sasnovich will play in the third round in Paris for the first time when he will face Germany’s Angelique Karbar, three-time winner or French wildcard Elsa Jackmot.
