CF, UE, MP fences are the first canvas fencing inter-club meet bright

Fans from the University of the East, Canlas Fencing Club and Modern Pentathlon in Ormoc City emerged as the big winners in the recently held First Canals Fencing Inter-Club Challenge.

Victoria Ebdane of CF / Home School Global won the gold medal in the U12 women’s foil as she outperformed Jodie Danielle Tan of CF / St. Jude College School 5-4 in the final. Victoria Paula Malvar and Una Samuel Canlas – also from CF – settled for bronze medals.

Ebdane teamed up with Nicole Amethyst Canlas and Erich Chloe Corpus as the CF 1 U12 team defeated Villa Liana Galvez’s CF 2, Christine Morales and Tan 36-25 in the women’s foil.

In the U12 men’s foil, CF / Ateneo’s Inigo Divinagracia defeated Republic Fencing’s Jaime Yupangco 10-4 in the final, where CF / Southridge’s Lucas Palafox and QC-SEP’s Rayne Louie Maravilla won the bronze medal in the four-day meet. May 26 to 29.

Blaine Smith defeated Luke Elliott Cheng, Juhan Lee, David Wong and Migo Tan 36-35 in a thrilling fashion to give CF gold in the U12 team men’s foil with Divinagrasia Ashwin Chandnani, Ain Win Olarette and Yohaner Malik in hand.

Hannah Dominic Bellarmino of QC-SEP won gold in the U17 women’s foil, defeating Aubrey Palian Fernandez of CF / UE, while Maricar Matienzo of UE won the U23 women’s foil vs. Bellarmino gold.

Matienzo teamed up with Anne Nicole Baring, Nina Dominique Canlas and Eytria Olarte to win the UE gold in the U23 women’s foil team.

In the U17 Men’s Foil, Keonn Landon Davies of CF / MIIS won gold, and Louis Marty Schumacher of CF / UE won silver, while Brynt Ember Gale and James Limuel Lim – both from CF – won bronze medals.

UE’s Ygnatius Robert Cabaero won the gold medal in the U23 men’s foil, and the silver went to Schumacher. Shawn Nicollei Felipe of UE and Marcus Antonio Manuel of CF / Paref Northfield won bronze medals.

Cabaero and Felipe U23 went against CF / SJCS’s CF’s Davis, Lim, Schumacher and Dustin Jarrett Tan in the men’s foil team and helped UE win the gold medal with Avit Objuner. Clyde Lorenzo and Ilac Xavier received bronze for Guinto, Diego Rafael Son and Manuel CF / PāĻĢref.

In the U10 division, CF’s Jaden Shoemaker won gold in the men’s foil, while CF’s Yuna Nanlas won the women’s foil. Canlas, along with Johnny Lauren Ching, Merida Amber Diaz and Christine Morales, helped CF win the U10 mixed team.

In Saber, the gold medalists were UE’s Charles Edward Babatio (U17 Men), UE’s Shereen Angel Frances Beltran (U17 Women), UE’s Christian Anthony Concepcion (U23 Men’s) and UE’s Elvilin Joy Javiner (U23 Women).

In Epee, modern pentathlon’s Alexa Larrazabal (U17 Women) and JR Rex Dela Cruz (U17 Men’s) won gold medals in their respective events. UE’s Cyrylle Anne Schofield and national team player Gian Miguel Bautista have won gold medals in the women’s and men’s U23 divisions.

The U2 U23 men’s team won against UE MP for the Epee title, and the U23 women’s team also won against QC-SEP in Epee.
