MANILA, Philippines – Calloway Yulo was crowned the king of men’s floor practice at the 9th Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships on Friday at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar.
Yulo scored 14.933 points to claim the elusive gold medal in the Asian Tilt floor practice.
The 22-year-old South Korea’s Kim Hansol and China’s Yang Jiaxing topped the list, both of whom won the Korean silver with a score of 14,333.
On Thursday, Yulo won the country’s first silver medal in the men’s all-round event that gave him a ticket to the FIG Artistic World Championships in Liverpool from 29 October to 6 November.
The Filipino gymnast, however, finished fourth in the steel ring event, where he scored 14,000, falling short of a podium finish to Taiwanese bronze medalist Guanyi-e Lin, who scored 14,200 points.
China’s Jingyu Lan dominated the event with 14,500 points, while Iran’s Mahdi Amad Kohani bagged silver with 14.433 points.
Yulo will compete in the Vault and Parallel Bar on Saturday. He placed No. 1 in the vault with a score of 14,867 and finished seventh in the parallel bars last Thursday.
