Canelo Alvarez will return to Super Middleweight and face Jenny Golvkin in their trilogy fight on September 17, according to matchroom boxing promoters.
Alvarez, who holds four major belts in the super middleweight division, rose to light heavyweight earlier this month but lost to Russian Dmitry Bevol in the second defeat of his career.
Alvarez and Golovkin, known as the “GGG”, first met in 2017, and the 31-year-old Mexican fought a split draw before securing a narrow victory in points a year later.
“The Canelo vs. GGG trilogy is the biggest fight in boxing and I’m glad to make it for September 17,” said matchroom chairman Eddie Horn, adding that the venue would be announced later.
“These are two men who bitterly dislike each other and want to end this incredible series with a blister KO.”
Kazakhstan’s Golvkin, 40, has won four fights in a row since losing to Alvarez.
