MANILA, Philippines: Ali has enjoyed the unforgettable Quiz City leg of the United States in the Frontier Volleyball Nations League after receiving a warm welcome from Filipino fans.
After leading Team USA in a four-game sweep in Week 2, Franti was surprised to see Filipino fans’ love for volleyball after finishing their campaign against Thailand 17-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18. In front of 4,327 spectators at the Araneta Coliseum.
“It’s incredible! The fans are so loud. It’s been an incredible experience that I will never forget, and it’s amazing that you love volleyball so much. I really appreciate it,” said Heather, an American outsider who scored 27 points in the seventh U.S. victory in eight games.
Having won all four of their games in the Philippines, Penn State University Standout expressed gratitude to Filipinos for their hospitality in hosting VNL for the first time.
“It simply came to our notice then. Your fans are incredible. We appreciate your hospitality. Thank you very much, “said Franti, who played for Cherry in the Italian Serie A1 league.
After a memorable Quiz City experience, Franti and the Americans are preparing for 3 weeks in Calgary, Canada, where they will face Belgium, Serbia, Turkey and Germany from June 28 to July 3.
“It’s going to be a war, it’s going to be an embarrassment every day. It’s going to get harder and harder. We’re going to take it one day at a time and focus on what’s next,” he said. “USA Volleyball likes that path so we will do it.”
USA Volleyball is currently second behind unbeaten leader Japan with a 7-1 record. The final round will be held in Ankara, Turkey, where the top 7 teams and the host team will face each other from 13 to 17 July.
