MANILA, Philippines – Alex Ila quickly pulled Staner 6-1, 6-4 against No. 3 Jaimei Forlis of Australia on Friday to advance to the W60 Madrid semifinals at Spanish club Deportivo Brazzo Osuna.
The 17-year-old Forlis, ranked 413, needed just 68 minutes to finish, having won the World Tennis Association’s 182nd number and Romania’s W25 Madrid and W60 Brasov recently.
Ila started 5-0 in the first set, forcing the Aussies to tie the neck-neck in the second frame at 4-All.
The Filipino tennis star was able to make the final touch to book a ticket to the semifinals, where he will face Canada’s Katherine Sebv in the $ 60,000 tournament.
Sevv defeated Carol Monet of France 6-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the other match of the quarter finals.
Ila and Sevav will face off to reach the final on Saturday.
Rafael Nadal Academy Pundit is two wins away from winning his third professional crown after ruling W15 Manakor last year and W25 Chiang Rai in April.
Ila won four matches in a row, including a 0-6, 6-2, 6-5 win over Evan Cavell-Reimers of Spain on Thursday.
