MANILA, Philippines – Alex Ila secured another bronze medal after falling to Thai opponent Luksika Kumkhum 4-6, 1-6 in the women’s tennis singles semifinals of the 31st Southeast Asian Games at the Hanaka Paris Ocean Park Center Court in Buck on Friday. Nih, Vietnam.

The 16-year-old, who was the No. 2 pick, missed the chance to reach the gold medal match as Kumkhum went better than Filipino Prodigy to set up an all-Thai final doubles against compatriot Anchisa Chanta.

Ila lost to Kumkhum in the final of the W25 Chiang Rai in Thailand in the first leg last April. But the 28-year-old returned to Ella, nailing timely hits in their intimate first set fight that made him for an impressive second frame.

Rafael Nadal Academy pundits made a strong start to the tournament, beating Laos’ Fonfathep Philavong in the preliminary round on Tuesday and losing to Malaysia’s Joe Lin Soe in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Ella won three bronze medals in her first SEA Games and finished third in the women’s team and mixed doubles.

Ila teamed up with men’s national star Trit Hu in the mixed event, where they lost to Thailand’s Pruchya Isaro and Pacharin Chepchandez in the semifinals on Thursday.
