MANILA – Alex Ila and French partner Alice Robe defeated No. 3 Alana Parnabi and Ivana Popovic of Australia 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the W25 Madrid tournament on Tuesday in Ciudad de la Raketa, Spain.
After finishing her three bronze medals at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, the Filipino teenage tennis star reached the quarterfinals with Rob in the doubles event.
The Filipino-French tandem dropped the Aussie pair at 1 hour 8 minutes on Wednesday evening (Manila time) for a double fight with Aussie Joe Hives and Canadian Catherine Sebv.
Ella and Robbie are looking to advance to the quarterfinals of the W25 Macon Doubles tournament in France last February.
Ella, who has won three SEA bronze medals in the women’s event, singles and mixed doubles, will also compete in the W25 Madrid singles draw against Romania’s Arena Gabriela Vaseliscu on Wednesday.
Ella, ranked 419th in the world, is facing a 25-year-old Romanian who is ranked 605th.
