MANILA, Philippines – Alex Ila lost to his doubles partner, Alice Rebekah of France, 6-7 (3), 3-6 in the quarterfinals of the W25 Madrid Tournament in Ciudad de la Raquette, Spain on Friday.

The 17-year-old Filipino tennis star pushed No. 8 pick Robe to his limit in the first set, but his French partner caught fire in the second frame to advance to the semifinals.

Robbe, World Tennis Association No. 331, endured the tough competition of World No. 419 Ilar in the first set, which reached the tiebreak.

The 22-year-old Frenchman used a 5-0 lead in the second set and never looked back to advance to the next round.

Ella and Robbie were knocked out of the quarterfinals of the W25 Madrid doubles last Wednesday, losing 0-6, 4-6 to Joe Hives of Australia and Katherine Sebv of Canada.

Rafael Nadal Academy won their first two matches before the bombing outside the controversy. He defeated Romania’s Arena Gabriela Vasiliscu 5-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and defeated No. 4 seed Xiaodi UK of China 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.

This was Ilar’s first tournament since the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, where he won three bronze medals in singles, team event and mixed doubles.

The Filipino Prodigy has two Pro Championships at the W15 Manacor Tournament in Spain last year and the W25 Chiang Rai Championship in Thailand in April.
